New LifeWorks EFAP Platform Now Included With Health Plus Plans to Help You Thrive

At Health Plus we know a lot goes into taking care of our health. We know we should eat well, work out, manage stress, take care of our relationships, and create work life balance. It can be a lot. Which is why we’re excited that all Health Plus PRIORITY and OPTIMUM plan members now have access to the new LifeWorks employee and family assistance program (EFAP).

LifeWorks, previously Shepell, has rebranded and offers plan members even more than before. The new platform provides the same great support services, including counselling, digital wellbeing tools and more. An easy-to-use online platform and mobile app with customizable news feed allows members to get the most from their EFAP on topics important to them. Plus new perks: exclusive offers, discounts and cashback from major brands help members save money on everyday essentials.

We know the past two years have brought a whole new range of challenges for all Canadians, particularly small businesses. Current News ... 

We're happy to announce that effective December 1st, 2021, we've increased the Vision maximum (OPTIMUM plan) for eye exams from $50 to $75 every 2 years. We've also added coverage in both our PRIORITY and OPTIMUM plans for Intrauterine Devices (IUDs) as a form of contraception. This change was prompted by a client request and brings coverage in line with the health needs of Canadians. 

Keeping Your Rates Low ...

We are extremely proud that, as other insurance companies have increased rates, we have kept our plan rates the same. In fact, we have never raised our rates, something no other insurer can say. We also continue to offer the same low pricing at all ages. 

A Look Back ... 

As we mentioned, making the plan better for our members has always been important to us. Updates in the last few years include adding an Employee Assistance Plan (EAP), coverage for Major Restorative Dental, increasing dental coverage maximums, extending travel emergency health coverage and lowering rates for single parents.

Health Plus News - Higher Maximums

New Higher Maximums for Paramedical and Dental

In 2021 You Deserve a Health Plus Plan Upgrade ... 

We designed our Health Plus PRIORITY and OPTIMUM plans to provide small business owners, freelancers and contract workers with better coverage for less than the big-name company plans. To ensure we continue to meet that goal, we’ve added to our plans every single year. 2021 is no different. In an especially tough year for business owners and freelancers, we want to make sure Health Plus plans are there to help. So we made a few changes.  

Paramedical Services  

To make it even easier for plan members to get the treatment they need we’ve increased the paramedical maximum from $150 to $250 per person / practitioner / year without pre-approval. All practitioners are still covered up to $750 per person / year with approval.  

Dental  

For OPTIMUM Plan Members we’ve increased the Basic and Preventative Dental Maximum from $1000 to $1500 per year, effective after 2 years plan membership. (Annual maximums are measured on a calendar year basis and begin January 1st.) 

Always Low Rates  

We’re committed to keeping rates low. In fact, we have never raised our plan premiums. Most insurance companies raise rates every year. We know our clients trust us to provide the best value coverage.  

Wellness Resources Always There to Support You 

Health Plus plans continue to come with extensive professional wellness resources to help with life and business challenges. The Shepell EAP provides professional counselling, online health, financial and family resources and programming all free of charge.

We've extended existing coverage and added completely new coverage.  So whether you run your own business, freelance or work on contract you can be sure you're getting the best value available. 

  • NEW  Major Restorative Dental Coverage, including Crowns, Bridges, and Dentures. Optimum plan maximum $600 / person / year.  Priority plan $400 / person / year. *Eligibility after 18 months of plan membership  
  • Extended Travel Coverage. Out-of-country emergency health coverage extended to 60 days (from 30 days) so you can enjoy peace of mind on longer trips without having to buy any more travel health insurance.  
  • Higher Vision maximum (Optimum plan). Coverage for glasses and contact lenses increased to $200 from $150 every 2 years.

Your EFAP is available 24/ 7 by phone, email or textin many languages.  The on-line library alone has hundreds of resources on dozens of topics. Experienced Shepell professionals can help connect you with more specialized and longer term services if needed. Used to be only people in a big employer plan had an EFAP.  Health Plus is the only plan that includes it for you ... even when you’re on your own.  With your Health Plus plan, now you can count on Confidential Counselling and Resources.

A personal pharmacogenetic test is new science that helps your doctor prescribe the right drug in the right dose for your unique DNA.  A simple test you do yourself at home can help reduce adverse / allergic reactions and avoid the ‘trial and error’ process it sometimes takes to find the right meds for physical or mental health concerns.  In some cases, it can be life-saving.  Test results are interpreted by the Health Plus consulting pharmacist who reviews them with you (and your doctor if you agree) and even suggests non-pharma treatment too.  You’re on your way to wellness more quickly with a Personalized Prescribing Plan.

Whether you’re solo, employ staff, or work for someone else, you may have questions about contracts, compensation, policies, or other workplace concerns.
